Wines of Greece Made for Geeks

Foivos, Lyrarakis, Vaeni Naoussa (just to name a few) are changing the face of Greek Wines
Greece has been making wine for over 4,000 years, so wine from Greece is nothing new. But there is much more to choose from than Retsina, ancient grapes such as Dafni, Robola and Xinomavro are producing world class wines that are vastly different and extremely diversified. Able and willing to match even the most flavorful dishes. Ancient indigenous varieties are being saved, replanted by fresh, passionate growers and winemakers. Huge efforts have been made implementing the latest and best technology in vineyard management as well as the art of wine making. These wines are as unique as their landscape, and should be experienced by all!

Recommendations:
  • 2009 Domaine Foivos Robola-100% Robola. Aromas and flavors of peach, meyer lemon with a lush finish of golden raisins.
  •  2009 Lyrarakis Dafni-100% Dafni, very aromatic with touch off dry of licorice, glazed citrus, lavender, fresh rosemary with a bergamot-finish.
  • 2004 Vaeni Noussa 100% Xinomarvo, spending 12 months in French oak barrels, elegant, spicy with cherry, red plum and soft tannins.
  • 2003 Vinsanto-70% Assyrtiko, 30% Aidani. Produced from dried grapes, 24 months in French oak. Peach marmalade, roasted hazelnuts with balanced acidity.
